2. What are the general conditions for domain registration under .ee?
1. Only institutions registered in Estonia are eligible to apply for .ee domain names.
2. Only one domain name can be registered per institution.
3. Registration is free of charge.
4. Before submitting an application, all name servers for the domain name must be configured.
3. What are the technical requirements for .ee subdomains?
Before submitting an application, all name servers for the domain name must be configured.
Further requirements are available in Estonian.
4. Should a company be registered in Estonia in order to register a domain name under .com.ee?
Yes. The requirement for being registered in Estonia applies to both .ee and .com.ee.
5. Can an institution register an additional domain name in order to protect a trademark?
The domain name has no trademark status. As domains under .ee are meant to be the institution's identification on the Internet (similar to the register code in the commercial register), the registration of additional domains to protect a trademark or a name form is not possible.
6. How can a domain name under .ee be transferred from one holder to another?
Transferring a domain name from one holder to another involves the following steps:
  1. The current holder releases the domain by sending the Registry (EENet) an official letter, signed by a member of the board of the institution, confirming the renouncement of the domain.
  2. The new applicant submits an electronic application according to the Official Regulations on Registration of Domain Names under .ee.
7. What is the renewal time for domains under .ee?
Domain names under .ee are registered for an indefinite period in all but the following cases:
  1. The holder of the domain no longer exists. Any domain whose legal holder no longer exists will be shut down.
  2. If an applicant submits false data, the hostmaster may annul the registration of the domain. The holder of the domain will be informed and given 14 days to respond before the registration is annulled.
  3. Registration can be cancelled or annulled if it has been impossible to get in touch with the administrative contact person of the domain holder for a period of several months. The holder of the domain is responsible for the renewal of the contact data in the database managed by the Registry.
  4. Registration can be annulled on the basis of a court ruling.
8. Why is there nowhere on the application form to put the data of the billing contact person?
Only the administrative and technical contact persons should be registered for a subdomain under .ee.
Registration is free of charge.
