Owned by the First Maritime Mining Corp. Ltd.

The Tilt Cove copper mine operated from 1864 to 1917 and 1957 to 1967 and was one of Newfoundland's most successful early mines. A total of 153,000 tons of copper and 43,000 ounces of gold were produced from nearly 9 million tons of ore. Early copper grades ranged between 4 and 12 percent. Most of the copper ore from the early stage of mining activity was shipped to Wales for refinement. The ores were found in an ophiolite, a slice of oceanic crust which was exposed during the Ordovician.
