Carbopyrite is a carbominerite microlithotype consisting of coal (organic matter) containing a minor but significant proportion of sulfide minerals—typically pyrite—on the order of ~5–20% by volume. It’s used in reflected-light coal petrography to describe coal–mineral intergrowths where sulfides are the dominant mineral component in that volumetric range.
