World's smallest waterlily brought back from the brink of extinction at Kew

Kew’s top propagation ‘code-breaker’, horticulturist Carlos Magdalena, has cracked the enigma of growing a rare species of African waterlily. The 'thermal’ lily (Nymphaea thermarum) is believed to be the smallest waterlily in the world, with pads that can be as little as 1 cm in diameter.

Exhibition - David Nash at Kew: A Natural Gallery
Sat 09 June 2012 - Sun 14 April 2013David Nash, one of the UK’s most prolific sculptors, is exhibiting his work at Kew Gardens. The exhibition includes sculptures, installations, drawings and film in place throughout the Gardens, glasshouses and exhibition spaces. From April to September 2012, Nash is also working at Kew on a ‘wood quarry’, creating new pieces for the exhibition.
Palm House Parterre
In 1848, when construction of the Palm House finished, William Andrews Nesfield created an intricate geometric pattern of beds, or parterre to surround it.
Minka House and Bamboo Garden
The Japanese Minka house stands in the Bamboo Garden between the Lake and River Thames.
