Forest Stewardship

B.C. is a world leader in sustainable forest management with leading-edge environmental practices. Owning 94 per cent of the land and forest resources lets us determine where, when and how forest resources can be used.

BC Timber Sales

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) manages about 20 per cent of the province’s allowable annual cut for Crown timber, generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber. BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C.

Supporting innovation

The Province promotes innovation in the forest sector. Today wood fibre is converted into electricity, fuels, plastics, solvents and lubricants

Forest Tenures

Approximately 95% of the province's timber is publicly owned. The B.C. government authorizes the rights to harvest Crown timber through forest tenures.

Private timber marks are required to transport logs from privately-owned land and are administered by the B.C. government.

Supports for forestry workers

Our new vision for B.C. forests includes help for those affected by old growth forest deferrals. The Province will provide coordinated and comprehensive supports for workers by looking at how we can improve existing programs and through the development of new programs.
